Christmas Handprint and Footprint Wreaths - December 19, 2012

Everyone loved making a handprint/footprint wreath with their little ones. These make a great keepsake!  We used canvases and painted each child's foot or hand.  Then we placed his handprint or footprint around in a circle to form a wreath shape.  Next we used his thumb to make the berries. We added the name and date to each canvas along with some festive ribbon. What a fun meeting!

MOPS - Favorite Things Gift Exchange 2012

This is one of our favorite meetings that we all look forward to each year! We each bring a favorite dish to share and a favorite thing.  This "thing" is something that makes our lives easier, happier, etc.  Some examples this year were candles, soaps, Clinique's chubby stick, the Read Aloud Handbook, a crock pot, Downy Wrinkler Releaser and more!

One of the best things about MOPs meetings is that you have the opportunity to fellowship with other moms.  We have various backgrounds, children of varying ages (although all have a preschooler), and different life experiences. Yet when we come together, we can always find something to talk about such as having babies, potty training, husbands, school issues, religious beliefs, coupons, where to go to the doctor, etc. If you have a question, someone at your table probably has an answer!

Project Linus - 2012

We have such a wonderful group of moms in our MOPs group!  These ladies worked hard to create 15 blankets to donate to Project Linus.  This is an organization that provides blankets to children in need.

This year we decided to make it a little easier on ourselves and we bought fleece kits! This meant that the fleece was already cut into rectangles.  We still had to cut all the little slits and then tie them all. What a great way to help a charity and chat with friends!

A special thank you to Rain from Rain James Photography for these photos.

First Meeting - September 5, 2012

This year's theme is Plunge: Love as if your life depended on it.

We decided to go with a beachy/luau theme.  We have luau name tag lanyards, sand bucket centerpieces, fun beach inspired table names, and signs decorated with shovels and tropical flowers.

We wanted to make a special gift for each one of our MOPs mommies.  So we made these adorable soap dispensers by creating a wordle about our MOPs group and printing it on transparencies.  Our steering committee worked hard this summer removing soap labels, inserting transparencies and tying raffia to make these gifts, but they have been well worth it. Every time a new mommy comes to our MOPs group, we welcome her with an information packet and a Harbor soap as a gift!

Welcome!

Welcome to Harbor UMC's MOPs Blog!

MOPS - Mothers of Preschoolers (age: birth through Kindergarten) - is a support group for moms.  MOPS strives to meet their needs by providing resources through local groups, books, magazines and the internet, long lasting friendships, and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.  Visit www.mops.org for more information.

MOPS OF HARBOR meets the first and third Wednesdays, September to May, from 9:30 am to 12 noon.  We share our experiences and encourage one another through small group discussions & guest speakers.  We also enjoy refreshments and making crafts.  While the moms are meeting, our children have a great time in the MOPPETS program, with loving child care workers and a teacher who visits each room with a Bible story, crafts, games, a snack, and songs.

If you are interested in coming, please contact Lisa at  Harbor UMC 910-452-7202 ext. 515.  Registration for MOPS International is $23.95, which pays for MOPS' bi-monthly magazine MomSense, weekly emails, online resources, and the 2012 Theme book.  Click here for a 2012-2013 Registration form.
